Graeme Durant
Through a process of re-cycling, improvisation and low-tech construction methodologies, Durant energises classical forms through new sculptural imaginations. He strives to reveal and invest an untrained meaning into the original components that were employed. His work stems from personal reflections upon materials and their transformations. Durant reorders a formalist vocabulary of form, volume and matter to play host to memory and experience.
Using sculpture, painting, collage and Light installation, Durant deals with the cohesions and foundations that bond many artists occupying a confusing, modern world of commercial, industrialist, media driven counter-cultures and cultural hybrids. The ongoing quest for a sense of importance, motivation or individuality is apparent in his work.
